The HTR-HPDT project develops machine-learning models for the automated transcription of historical population sources, particularly parish and civil registers. By applying Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) technologies, the project enables large-scale extraction of demographic data and supports the expansion of the Historical Population Database of Transylvania (HPDT).
