The Centre for Population Studies is a research unit established in 2002 at Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca; its main purpose is to develop and encourage programs of scientific research in demography at the national and international levels, as well as to unfold an active presence of the university in the public life. Our Centre was aiming for an interdisciplinary approach, thus being coordinated by four Faculties (History, Sociology, Economical Sciences, and Geographies)
The Centre for Population Studies was evaluated by the National Council of Scientific Research for Superior Education (CNCSIS) and got the official recognition in 2004. From 2005 it is member of European Association for Population Studies. In 2007, the decision of the Babes-Bolyai University’s Senate included the scientific themes developed by the Centre for Population Studies among the priority researches of the University. In 2010, our research unit was rated as one of the Excellency Centers of Babes-Bolyai University. Since 2007 the Centre is editing Romanian Journal of Population Studies, the only journal dedicated to demographical researches in Romania, indexed in EBSCO, CEEOL, ProQuest, and ERIH +.
Since 2009 our Center was included in ESF European Historical Population Sample Network (EHPS-Net – http://www.ehps-net.eu/), being the partner in charge with Working Group 7- Education (https://www.ehps-net.eu/content/working-groups). Our Centre was the organizer of three Summer Schools in Historical Demography, starting with 2013 (https://www.ehps-net.eu/content/ehps-net-courses-historical-demography.)
